Venerable, Hegumen Cassian, Hegumen of Kamennoye, of Beloozero

Venerable Cassian was tonsured at the Spaso-Kamenny Monastery on Lake Kubenskoye, but from 1445 he labored at the Kirillo-Belozersky community, where he became hegumen. The Grand Prince of Moscow Vasily Vasilyevich the Blind and Metropolitan Jonah of All Rus' twice sent Venerable Cassian to Constantinople on an embassy to the Patriarch on church matters. Having carried out these missions, the Grand Prince generously rewarded the venerable one and, at his own request, released him back to the Spaso-Kamenny Monastery for the hegumenate. He died around 1463 and was buried on the southern side of the Transfiguration Cathedral of the Spaso-Kamenny Monastery. Given the scarcity of sources and possible confusion with other Beloozero- and Kamennoye-associated ascetics named Cassian, no exact commemoration date was found in the sources; the card is hidden from the calendar pending clarification.
