Venerable Dionysius, nicknamed Shchepa ("Splinter"), Recluse of the Kiev Caves (15th c.) — a hieromonk of the Far Caves, renowned for a miracle at the Paschal matins of 1463, when, censing the relics of the holy fathers, he heard from them the responding exclamation "Truly He is risen!", after which he withdrew into seclusion.
Venerable Dionysius, nicknamed Shchepa, a hieromonk, labored at the Kiev Caves Monastery in the 15th century. On the day of Holy Pascha in 1463, during the Paschal matins, while censing the relics of the holy fathers resting in the Anthony (Far) Cave, he exclaimed: "Holy fathers and brethren! Today is a great day. Christ is risen!" — and, like thunder, a response sounded from the holy relics: "Truly He is risen!" Struck by this miracle, Venerable Dionysius withdrew into seclusion from that day, and, having spent the rest of his life in strict asceticism and prayer, reposed in the Lord. He is buried in the Far Caves. His name is included in the canon of the Venerable Fathers of the Caves, composed in 1643 by Meletius Sirig. His memory is kept on October 3/16.
