Venerable Caves Theophan Faster Tit Of Kiev

This card combines TWO different Kiev Caves venerables: Theophan the Faster — a monk whose relics rest openly in the Anthony Cave, but whose life circumstances are not described in the Lavra's records, and Tit the Warrior (14th c.) — a former soldier gravely wounded in the head in battle, who after recovering came to the Caves monastery to weep over his sins.
This card combines the lives of two different, unrelated Kiev Caves venerables, which ideally warrants splitting into two separate cards. Venerable Theophan, nicknamed the Faster, labored at the Kiev Caves Monastery; strict fasting was the path by which he drew near to the Lord, for which he received his nickname. The circumstances of his life are not described in the surviving records of the Lavra; his relics rest openly in the Near (Anthony's) Caves. Venerable Tit, nicknamed the Warrior, lived in the 14th century; in the world he was a soldier and was gravely wounded in the head in one of the battles. After recovering, he came to labor at the Kiev Caves Monastery, where he wept over the sins of his former life. He died and was buried at the monastery; his memory is kept on February 27/March 11. He should not be confused with another Caves Titus — Venerable Titus the Presbyter of the Caves (12th c.), known for the story of his reconciliation with the deacon Evagrius — that is a different ascetic.
