Martyr Concordia of Rome — the nursemaid of Hieromartyr Hippolytus of Rome; after his entire household was converted to Christ and punished for it by the authorities, she was beaten to death with lead-tipped rods; she suffered in 258, three days after the death of Archdeacon Lawrence.
Martyr Concordia was the nursemaid of Hieromartyr Hippolytus of Rome. When Hippolytus and his entire household came to believe in Christ under the influence of Archdeacon Lawrence's example and were baptized, the pagan authorities cruelly punished all members of that household. Concordia was scourged with lead-tipped rods and beaten to death; her body was thrown into an unclean place, but was later secretly retrieved and buried by the martyrs Irenaeus and Abundius near the resting place of Hieromartyr Hippolytus. Martyr Concordia's death occurred in 258, three days after the martyric death of Archdeacon Lawrence. Her memory is kept on August 13/26.
