Hierarch Domitian, Bishop of Melitene — lived in the 6th century under Emperor Justin II; having been widowed, he took monastic vows and led a strict ascetic life; at the age of 30 he was elected bishop of the city of Melitene (Greater Armenia); he repeatedly carried out state diplomatic missions, mediating between Emperor Maurice and the Persian king Khosrow; he was glorified by God with the gift of wonderworking even during his lifetime.
Hierarch Domitian was born and lived in the 6th century, during the reign of Emperor Justin II. In the world he was married, but having been widowed, he took monastic vows and began to lead a strict and holy ascetic life. At the age of thirty he was elected bishop of the city of Melitene in Greater Armenia. Wise and zealous in matters of faith, strong in word and deed, Hierarch Domitian quickly earned a reputation as a kind and caring shepherd of his flock. In addition to his archpastoral ministry, he repeatedly carried out important state missions, being sent to resolve diplomatic clashes between Byzantium and Persia; in particular, he served as a mediator between Emperor Maurice and the Persian king Khosrow II. Even during his earthly life, and after his death, Hierarch Domitian was glorified by God with numerous miracles. He died in 601. His memory is kept on January 10/23.
