Venerable, Hegumen Dositheus of Verkhneostrovsky, Pskov

Venerable Dositheus of Verkhneostrovsky, Pskov — a disciple of St. Euphrosynus of Spaso-Eleazarovo, Pskov; in 1470 he founded the Saints Peter and Paul Verkhneostrovsky Monastery on an island of Lake Pskov, becoming its first hegumen; he peacefully reposed on October 8, 1482.
Venerable Dositheus was a disciple of St. Euphrosynus of Spaso-Eleazarovo, Pskov, one of the founders of Pskov's hermitic tradition. In 1470, Venerable Dositheus founded the Saints Peter and Paul Verkhneostrovsky Monastery on an island of Lake Pskov, becoming its first hegumen (as a hieromonk). After many labors and ascetic feats, Venerable Dositheus peacefully reposed on October 8, 1482. His memory is kept on October 8/21, as well as in the Synaxis of the Saints of Pskov.
