Venerable Euthymius of Suzdal, Archimandrite

Venerable Euthymius was born around 1316 in Nizhny Novgorod and was tonsured at the local Caves Monastery under the guidance of Venerable Dionysius of Suzdal. Around 1352, with the blessing of Prince Boris Konstantinovich of Suzdal, he was sent to found a cenobitic monastery for men in Suzdal. The monastery he founded, later named Spaso-Evfimiev, grew under his leadership to over 300 monks living under a strict communal rule. Venerable Euthymius reposed on April 1, 1404 (per other sources, 1405). In 1507/08, during the construction of the monastery's new cathedral, his relics were found incorrupt. He was canonized at the Moscow (Macarian) Council of 1549. His memory is kept on April 1/14 (repose) and July 4/17 (discovery of relics), and also in the Synaxes of the Saints of Vladimir and of Radonezh.
