Martyr Thaumasius — one of the Nine Martyrs of Cyzicus (together with Theognius, Rufus, Antipater, Theostichus, Artemas, Magnus, Theodotus, and Philemon), diverse in origin, age, and status (soldiers, villagers, clergy), beheaded near Cyzicus under a pagan governor before 313.
Martyr Thaumasius was one of nine Christians from the vicinity of the city of Cyzicus in Mysia (Asia Minor), diverse in age, occupation, and social standing — among them were soldiers, villagers, and clergy. Seized during a persecution of Christians (no later than 313), all nine firmly confessed faith in Christ before the pagan governor and refused to sacrifice to idols, for which they were tortured and beheaded. The group of the Nine Martyrs of Cyzicus comprised: Theognius, Rufus, Antipater, Theostichus, Artemas, Magnus, Theodotus, Thaumasius, and Philemon. Numerous healings were later worked through their relics. Their memory is kept on April 29/May 12 (in Greek tradition also April 28).
