Synaxis of the Venerable Elders of Glinsk — a collective commemoration of the spiritual elders (startsy) of the Glinsk Hermitage of the Nativity of the Mother of God in the Kursk (now Sumy, Ukraine) region, a renowned school of eldership that gave the Russian Church many ascetics of the 18th-20th centuries, including those who lived through the Soviet-era persecutions.
The Glinsk Hermitage is one of the most important centers of Russian eldership, alongside Optina and Sarov. The Synaxis of the Glinsk Elders unites the memory of sixteen glorified ascetics of the monastery: St. Basil (Kishkin), St. Philaret (Danilevsky) — who renewed the monastery's rule in the early 19th century, St. Theodotus (Levchenko), St. Macarius (Sharov), St. Martyrius (Kirichenko), St. Euthymius (Lyubimchenko), St. Dositheus (Kolchenkov), St. Iliodor (Golovanitsky), St. Innocent (Stepanov), St. Luke (Shvets), St. Archippus (Shestakov), St. Joannicius (Gomolko), St. Seraphim (Amelin), St. Andronik (Lukash), St. Seraphim (Romantsov), and St. Zinovy (in schema, Seraphim, Mazhuga). Of particular significance are the 20th-century ascetics — Sts. Andronik, Seraphim (Romantsov), and Zinovy (Mazhuga) — who lived through the monastery's Soviet-era closure, labor camps, and exile, yet preserved the living tradition of eldership, which they passed on to many spiritual children. They were glorified by the Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church on May 8, 2008 (13 elders) and March 25, 2009 (3 more), and by decision of the Bishops' Council of the Russian Orthodox Church on November 30, 2017, were included in the general church calendar.
