Hieromartyr Pimen (Pyotr Zakharovich Belolikov), Bishop of Vernyi, vicar of the Semirechye diocese — a missionary of the Urmia Spiritual Mission in Persia, shot by a detachment under Mamontov in Baum's Grove outside Vernyi (now Almaty) on the night of September 16, 1918; canonized among the New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia in 2000.
The Hieromartyr Pimen was born on November 5, 1879, in the village of Vasilyevskoye (Romanovo), Cherepovets district, Novgorod province, into a clerical family. He took monastic vows with the name Pimen on August 6, 1903, from Metropolitan Flavian of Kiev; he was ordained hierodeacon on August 24, 1903, and hieromonk in the summer of 1904.
He served as a missionary of the Urmia Spiritual Mission in Persia (1904-1911), mastering Syriac and Turkic dialects; he was rector of the Ardon Seminary of the Vladikavkaz diocese (1911-1912); again rector of the Urmia Seminary (1912-1916). On July 7, 1916, he was appointed head of the Urmia Mission and consecrated Bishop of Salmas (Persia). On October 11/24, 1917, he arrived in the city of Vernyi as vicar bishop of the newly formed Semirechye and Vernyi diocese.
On the evening of September 3 (September 16 N.S.), 1918, he was arrested by a detachment under the command of Mamontov (specially summoned from Sarkand); he was shot that same day/night in Baum's Grove, about 8 versts from Vernyi. His body was found in a white cassock, covered with leaves.
He was glorified locally by the Alma-Ata (Vernyi) diocese on October 12, 1997; he was canonized church-wide by the Jubilee Bishops' Council of the Russian Orthodox Church in August 2000, among the New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia.
