Righteous Hur

Righteous Hur — an Old Testament saint of the tribe of Judah, descended from Caleb; together with Aaron he held up Moses's hands during the battle against the Amalekites at Rephidim (Exodus 17:8-13) and together with him governed the camp of Israel while Moses ascended Sinai (Exodus 24:14); grandfather of Bezalel, chief craftsman of the Tabernacle.
Righteous Hur was of the tribe of Judah. According to genealogy (1 Chronicles 2:19-20), he was the son of Caleb (grandson of Hezron) by his wife Ephrath.
During the battle of the Israelites against the Amalekites at Rephidim, Hur, together with Aaron, held up Moses's hands, raised in prayer with the staff of God — as long as Moses's hands were raised, Israel prevailed (Exodus 17:8-13). Together with Aaron he was also left in charge of the camp of Israel while Moses ascended Mount Sinai to receive the tablets of the Law (Exodus 24:14).
According to tradition recorded by Josephus Flavius (not in the biblical text itself), Hur was the husband of the prophetess Miriam, Moses's sister — there is no direct biblical confirmation of this; it is a later Jewish tradition. Hur's son was Uri, and his grandson was Bezalel, the chief craftsman who made the Tabernacle of meeting and its furnishings (Exodus 31:2, 35:30, 38:22).
Righteous Hur is commemorated on the Wednesday of Cheesefare Week among the glorified Old Testament righteous who prepare the faithful for Great Lent (a movable observance, with no fixed civil-calendar date).
