Hieromartyr Isaurus of Athens, Deacon

Hieromartyr Isaurus, a deacon, was a native of Athens. Together with a group of Athenians — Innocent, Felix, Hermias, Basil, and Peregrinus — he suffered a martyr's death for Christ in the city of Apollonia (an ancient city in Illyria, near present-day Fier, Albania; called variously "Macedonian" or "Illyrian" Apollonia in church sources) during the reign of Emperor Numerian (283-284). Together with them, the city governors Rufus and Rufinus, who had converted to Christ, were also beheaded.

Among the group of co-martyrs, it is specifically Isaurus, as a deacon, who is separately titled "hieromartyr" in liturgical sources — while his lay companions are titled simply "martyrs."
