Martyr Laura of Cordoba — a widow who became abbess of the Cuteclara monastery near Córdoba, one of the "Martyrs of Córdoba" — Christians executed by the Emirate of Córdoba in the 850s-860s; having refused to accept Islam, she was thrown into a cauldron of boiling lead (molten pitch) around 864.
Martyr Laura, a widow, after her husband's death entered the monastery of Cuteclara near Córdoba and became its abbess. She belongs to the so-called "Martyrs of Córdoba" — a large, well-documented group of Christians (some fifty people) executed by the authorities of the Emirate of Córdoba in the 850s-860s for refusing to renounce Christ and accept Islam; the events of this period are attested in detail by the contemporary chronicler priest Eulogius of Córdoba (himself later also martyred) and Paulus Alvarus.
She was denounced to the authorities as a Christian, refused to convert to Islam, and was executed — thrown into a cauldron of boiling lead (according to another version, molten pitch) around 864.
Her feast is kept on October 19.
IMPORTANT CORRECTIONS: category righteous→martyr — the original stub's own text already called her a "martyr" and spoke of "death for the faith," contradicting the stated category of "righteous." The single attached image, upon inspection, turned out to be a modern color photograph of a living businesswoman speaker at a conference table — entirely unrelated to the 9th-century events — excluded as completely mistakenly attached.
