Righteous Mariamne, sister of the Apostle Philip

Righteous Mariamne — blood sister of the Apostle Philip, who accompanied him and the Apostle Bartholomew on their missionary travels, shared their arrest and torment at Hierapolis in Phrygia, and after their miraculous deliverance continued preaching in Lycaonia, where she reposed in peace.
Righteous Mariamne, according to tradition, was born in Bethsaida of Galilee, the blood sister of the Apostle Philip. Having come to believe in Christ, after His Resurrection she joined her brother and the Apostle Bartholomew on their missionary journeys — accompanying, serving, and encouraging them, and guarding purity and order within their traveling community.
According to the Menologion of Basil II and the apocryphal Acts of Philip, all three were seized at Hierapolis in Phrygia by the local proconsul for preaching Christ, bound, and subjected to torment (including being hung from trees). Before his death on the cross, the Apostle Philip prayed, and the earth opened, swallowing the proconsul together with his wife — the terrified witnesses of this miracle released Bartholomew and Mariamne. The Apostle Bartholomew went on to India; Righteous Mariamne continued preaching in Lycaonia, where she reposed in peace.
Her feast is kept on February 17/March 2.
