Martyr Avudimus of Tenedos suffered on the island of Tenedos under Emperor Diocletian, refusing to eat food sacrificed to idols and renounce Christ; he was beheaded after cruel torture.
Martyr Avudimus (Abudimus) of Tenedos was born on the island of Tenedos, near ancient Troy, at the end of the 3rd century. During Emperor Diocletian's persecution in the early 4th century, he was pressured to eat food sacrificed to idols and renounce Christ, but firmly confessed his faith.
He was tortured severely — beaten and pierced in the ribs with iron nails — while continuing to proclaim "I am a Christian," and was ultimately beheaded.
His feast is kept on July 15/28. At the start of the 12th century his incorrupt relics were seen on Tenedos by the Russian pilgrim Abbot Daniel.
