Martyr Quadratus (Codratus) of Nicomedia

Saint Quadratus (Kodrat) came from a noble and wealthy family, but spent his fortune supporting fellow Christians imprisoned for their faith during the persecution of Emperor Decius. When the proconsul Perennius arrived in Nicomedia, Quadratus voluntarily presented himself before him to strengthen the resolve of the imprisoned brethren by his own example.

For refusing to renounce Christ he was tortured brutally, with nails driven beneath his back and a heavy stone pressed upon him. Two noblemen, Saturninus and Rufinus, moved to pity by his suffering, were noticed by the guards and beheaded for it.

Quadratus was led through several cities (Nicaea, Apamea, Caesarea, Apollonia, near the Hellespont) and subjected to further torments — cast into a pit of serpents, laid on a heated iron grate — but remained unbroken, and was ultimately beheaded by order of the proconsul.

His feast is kept on March 10/23.

NOTE: there is a separate, distinct saint of the same name — Quadratus of Corinth (a desert hermit with disciples Dionysius, Cyprian, and others, feast also March 10) — per independent pravenc.ru sourcing, the two are DIFFERENT, unrelated saints despite sharing a feast date.
