Martyr Galina of Corinth — one of seven women martyred in the group of Hieromartyr Leonidas of Corinth, seized at Troezen, tortured and drowned in the sea with a stone tied to her neck in 258.
Martyr Galina was one of seven women — Chariessa, Nika, Galina, Kalisa, Nunechia, Basilissa, and Theodora — who were martyred together with Hieromartyr Leonidas of Corinth.
Seized at Troezen (Argolid) during a persecution (dated by various sources either to Decius or, per most accounts, to c. 258), the saints were brought to Corinth and tortured for refusing to sacrifice to idols. According to tradition, after their torments they were cast into the sea but for a time walked upon the water singing psalms, until their pursuers caught up with them, bound their hands, tied stones to their necks, and drowned them.
Their feast is kept on March 10/23 (some sources also give April 16/29).
IMPORTANT CORRECTION: category_gender has been corrected from the erroneous "m" to the correct "f". The entry's former sole image turned out to be a modern photograph of an actress in theatrical costume (not an icon) — removed.
