Martyr Saturninus of Carthage — a catechumen of noble rank who suffered in Carthage together with Martyr Perpetua, Felicity, and others under Emperor Septimius Severus in 203.
Saint Saturninus was a catechumen "of noble class," arrested together with Perpetua's group (already documented in our database as a separate entry, martyr_perpetua) at Thuburbo and imprisoned in Carthage under Emperor Septimius Severus.
In the arena he, together with Revocatus (already documented as a separate entry, martyr_revocatus), was exposed to a leopard and then a bear; the beasts did not kill him outright, and along with the surviving martyrs he was finished by the sword. Tradition notes that before his execution Saturninus was strengthened by the visions granted to Perpetua in prison.
His feast is kept on February 1/14 together with the whole group of Carthaginian martyrs.
