Martyr Tatiana Grimblit

IMPORTANT CORRECTION: the name in the stub was garbled ("Grimblitskaya" instead of the true surname "Grimblit") and carried an erroneous date (January 12/25 — actually belonging to the ancient Martyr Tatiana of Rome, evidently copied by name coincidence). Both errors have been corrected.

Saint Tatiana Nikolaevna Grimblit was born December 1, 1903, in Tomsk into a devout family; her grandfather, a protopriest, instilled her faith. Trained as a nurse, she became known for systematically helping imprisoned and exiled clergy and laypeople — sending money, food, and letters — for which she was repeatedly arrested through the 1920s–30s.

She was arrested for the last time on September 5, 1937, on charges of "systematic anti-Soviet agitation," and was shot on September 23, 1937, at the Butovo firing range near Moscow; she was buried in an unmarked mass grave. She is also remembered as a poet who wrote verse in prison.

She was glorified by decree of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church on July 17, 2002. Her feast is kept on the day of her repose, September 10/23, as well as in the Synaxis of New Martyrs and Confessors of the Russian Church.
