Martyr Theodore of Antioch — a fifteen-year-old youth, tortured under Emperor Julian the Apostate for singing a psalm during the translation of Hieromartyr Babylas's relics from Daphne to Antioch.
Saint Martyr Theodore was a fifteen-year-old youth who suffered in Antioch under Emperor Julian the Apostate (361–363) and the governor Salustius. During the translation of the relics of Hieromartyr Babylas of Antioch from Daphne to Antioch, he sang a psalm denouncing idol-worshippers, for which he was seized and scourged with ox-hide thongs.
Witnesses, including his own torturers, reported that during the torments themselves the youth rejoiced and felt no pain, only sensing it afterward; he himself explained this by the appearance of an angel who comforted him in his sufferings.
IMPORTANT NOTE: sources disagree on the saint's subsequent fate — one account holds that the emperor, struck by the miracle, released him, and the youth died peacefully in old age; another holds that he was seized again and beheaded. Both versions are honestly reflected, without favoring one over the other.
His feast is kept on November 23/December 6.
