Martyr Zinaida of Tarsus — a kinswoman and disciple of the Apostle Paul, a physician who treated the poor free of charge together with her sister Philonilla in Thessaly, stoned by pagans.
IMPORTANT CORRECTION: the stub carried a garbled name, "Zenais of Laodicea," with an erroneous masculine gender and a nonexistent link to Laodicea — thorough checking found no saint matching this exact name-and-region combination in any source. It was established that this is most likely a corrupted rendering of the name of Zinaida of Tarsus — a kinswoman of the Apostle Paul, a physician; the gender category has been corrected from male to female, and the region to Tarsus/Thessaly.
Saint Martyr Zinaida came from Tarsus in Cilicia and, together with her sister Philonilla, was a kinswoman and disciple of the Apostle Paul. Having heard his preaching, the sisters left home, gave away their wealth, and settled in a cave near Demetrias in Thessaly. Zinaida, trained in medicine, treated the sick and poor free of charge — a detail directly consistent with tradition regarding her kinship with the healer-apostle.
Both sisters preached the Gospel and healed the suffering in the surrounding region, for which they were stoned by pagans and met a martyr's end.
Her feast is kept on October 11/24.
