Martyr
Martyr Zeno of Nicomedia
† 303
Also known as: Зенон Никомидийский
Martyr Zeno of Nicomedia — one of five martyrs (with Victor, Zoticus, Akindynos, and Severian), beheaded for confessing Christ, inspired by the steadfastness of Great Martyr George the Trophy-bearer.
Saint Martyr Zeno is venerated among five residents of Nicomedia — Victor, Zoticus, Zeno, Akindynos, and Severian — who witnessed the torments of Great Martyr George the Trophy-bearer (a wheel of blades that did not harm him) in 303 under Emperor Diocletian.
Struck by his steadfastness, all five openly confessed Christ before the judge and were beheaded. Tradition preserves no separate, individual biography for Zeno — all details pertain to the group's shared act of witness.
His feast is kept on April 18/May 1.
