Hieromartyr and Martyr Theodore the Presbyter and Pausilippus

IMPORTANT NOTE: this commemoration is attested almost exclusively in Greek synaxarion tradition (the Great Synaxaristes) and has no dedicated article in either the Orthodox Encyclopedia or the standard ROC calendar (days.pravoslavie.ru) — the source base is considerably thinner than for most entries in our database. The Old Style/New Style correspondence could not be independently confirmed (one source gave the same date for both styles, which is a technical error rather than a genuine claim); an alternate date of April 8 (OCA) also appears for Pausilippus individually — this discrepancy is honestly reflected rather than concealed.

Martyr Pausilippus was denounced as a Christian, brought to trial, refused to sacrifice to idols, was beaten with iron rods, and handed over to the governor for execution; according to one account, he was miraculously freed from his fetters immediately before his death by the sword. The presbyter Theodore suffered in the same persecution and the same city, meeting death by the sword.

Later Byzantine tradition records an annual joint service held in their honor at the almshouse of "Melovios" in Constantinople.

Their feast is kept on April 15 (per the consistently cited Greek tradition).
