Synaxis Saints of Murom

HONEST NOTE ON FEAST STATUS: unlike the Synaxes of Moscow, Vladimir, or Novgorod Saints — official celebrations with a fixed date — no church-wide "Synaxis of Murom Saints" with its own feast day exists. This is confirmed by the absence of such an article in the list of Synaxes of Saints of the Russian Orthodox Church on the Orthodox Encyclopedia portal. Visually confirmed: the image contains the classic 6-figure composition — Sts. Prince Constantine with sons Michael and Theodore on the left, Right-believing Prince Peter and Fevronia on the right, and Righteous Juliana Lazarevskaya kneeling below — against the backdrop of a Murom church.

There is a stable iconographic tradition of depicting Murom's saints together, dating to the late 16th–early 17th century (the earliest known 5-figure icons of Princes Constantine, Michael, Theodore, Peter, and Fevronia), expanded by the late 17th century with a 6th figure — Righteous Juliana Lazarevskaya; the oldest surviving example of this kind is a 1669 icon from the Church of St. George in Murom.

Historically, Murom's saints have been commemorated within the Synaxes of other dioceses: the Synaxis of Vladimir Saints (established 1982, June 23/July 6) and the Synaxis of Ryazan Saints (June 10/23), since Murom belonged first to the Vladimir diocese, then to the Ryazan-Murom diocese. In 2013 a separate Murom and Vyazniki diocese was formed, and a chapel to the Murom wonderworkers was consecrated that same year, but according to researchers its own Synaxis day has "not yet been established."

The main saints usually depicted together: Right-believing Prince Constantine (legendary baptizer of Murom, 12th c.) with his sons Michael and Theodore (feast May 21/June 3); Right-believing Prince Peter and Princess Fevronia (feast June 25/July 8); Righteous Juliana Lazarevskaya (feast January 2/15); Hierarch Basil of Ryazan and Murom (feast July 3/16); sometimes Ilya Muromets (December 19/January 1) is added as well — each with their own separate feast day.
