Forefather Nahor

IMPORTANT CORRECTION: the category has been corrected from "righteous" to "forefather" — according to the genealogy of the Lord (Luke 3:34), Nahor son of Serug is in the direct line of Christ's ancestors according to the flesh. HONEST NOTE: he has no independent fixed feast day — he is commemorated only collectively, as part of the movable Sunday of the Holy Forefathers (two weeks before the Nativity of Christ); the date field has been left empty rather than filled with an invented date. IMAGE CONTAMINATION ALSO FOUND: the only image present depicted a crowned woman holding a chalice — entirely inconsistent with an Old Testament male forefather; it has been excluded as critically wrong.

The Bible mentions two people named Nahor: Abraham's grandfather (son of Serug, father of Terah — Genesis 11:22-25) and Abraham's brother (son of Terah, grandfather of Rebekah — Genesis 11:26-29). This card has been assigned to the first — Abraham's grandfather — since he is the one in the Savior's direct genealogical line according to the Evangelist Luke (Serug → Nahor → Terah → Abraham), whereas the second Nahor (Abraham's brother) is only a side branch of the genealogy (an ancestor of Rebekah, not of Christ).

According to the Masoretic Text, Nahor lived 148 years (208 per the Septuagint); tradition places his life in Ur of the Chaldees. He fathered Terah, from whom came Abraham, the younger Nahor (his namesake grandson), and Haran. Some medieval chronicles associate him, together with his father Serug, with the making or selling of idols — up to the point in the biblical narrative where Abraham breaks with idolatry, marking the beginning of true monotheism in this family line.
