Hierarch Nectarius Of Constantinople

Hierarch Nectarius held the archiepiscopal See of Constantinople from 381 to 397, having been elected during the Second Ecumenical Council held in Constantinople in 381. He governed the Church during the period of the consolidation of Nicene Orthodoxy following the victory over the Arian heresy. He died on September 27, 397; he was succeeded by St. John Chrysostom. He is venerated in the Greek Church on October 11/24, though a separate commemoration is not included in the modern calendar of the Russian Orthodox Church.
