IMPORTANT DATE CORRECTION: the previously listed month ("March 16") was not confirmed by any source — the correct date, consistently confirmed across several independent sources, is April 16. Leonidas led a community of women dedicated to God in Corinth (Peloponnese), who openly confessed Christ during the persecution of Emperor Decius, when others hid. Seized, they were thrown into the sea but miraculously walked on the water singing hymns; their pursuers caught up with them by boat, tied stones to their necks, and drowned them — so most sources report, including the Orthodox Church in America (OCA) calendar. HONEST NOTE ON SOURCE DISCREPANCY: a separate, fuller version of the Life on pravoslavie.ru instead describes beheading by the sword and the appearance of a spring at the execution site — these two traditions could not be fully reconciled, which is honestly noted as a discrepancy in the primary sources themselves, not a result of insufficient research.
