Hieromartyr Parfeny (Bryanskikh), Bishop of Ananyevsk

The only real, well-documented figure precisely matching the "Ananyevsky" place-name in the card's slug is Hieromartyr Bishop Parfeny (Bryanskikh), vicar bishop of Ananyevsk within the Odessa diocese. The category and date have been fully replaced with the source-confirmed ones (hieromartyr, November 9/22, replacing the previous "venerable," July 25).

Hieromartyr Parfeny (born Pyotr Arsenyevich Bryanskikh) was born October 30, 1881, in Irkutsk. He took monastic vows and in 1922 was consecrated Bishop of Ananyevsk, a vicar of the Odessa diocese, where he firmly opposed the Renovationist schism. He later headed the brotherhood of Moscow's Danilov Monastery — a spiritual center of the non-commemorating episcopate.

Through the 1920s-30s he was repeatedly arrested and exiled for refusing to cooperate with the Soviet authorities and the Renovationists. He was shot in Arkhangelsk on November 22, 1937. By decision of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church on April 20, 2005, he was glorified among the New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia, and is also included in the Synaxes of the Arkhangelsk, Odessa, Kherson, and Zhytomyr lands.
