Righteous Righteous Phinehas

Righteous Phinehas — an Old Testament priest, son of the high priest Eleazar and grandson of Aaron, who through zeal for God's glory halted a plague among the Israelites and was granted by God a "covenant of peace" and everlasting priesthood.
CRITICAL DATE FILLED IN: the previous "date not established" was incorrect — an established feast date, confirmed by several sources, is March 12/25 (usually together with the commemoration of his father, Righteous Eleazar).
Righteous Phinehas was an Old Testament priest, son of the high priest Eleazar and grandson of Aaron, living in the era of Israel's wilderness wandering and the conquest of Canaan. When the Moabites and Midianites seduced the Israelites into the worship of Baal of Peor and immorality with Midianite women, a plague broke out among the people.
According to Numbers 25, when the Israelite Zimri brazenly brought a Midianite woman into the camp, Phinehas, burning with zeal for God's glory, pierced them both through with a spear — and the plague was stayed. For this zeal the Lord granted Phinehas and his descendants a "covenant of peace" and an everlasting priesthood.
He later led Israel's army against the Midianites. After his father Eleazar's death, he was unanimously chosen high priest, serving about twenty years and dying peacefully in old age at Gibeah.
