Synaxis Synaxis of Russian Hierarchs

"Russian Hierarchs" is not a single calendar feast but a devotional/iconographic rank of Russian sainthood — bishops glorified for personal holiness rather than by virtue of their office alone. The type traces to an icon by nun Juliana (Sokolova), painted between the 1920s–1960s (possibly blessed by St. Athanasius of Kovrov), kept in the Patriarchal chambers of the Trinity-Sergius Lavra.

It depicts hierarchs across many centuries and sees: Niphon of Novgorod (11th c.), Leonty and Isaiah of Rostov, Stephen of Perm, Gury of Kazan, Metropolitans Alexy and Philip of Moscow, Patriarch Tikhon, Innocent of Irkutsk, John and Paul of Tobolsk, Nicholas of Japan, and others. This is broader than the distinct, dated feast "Synaxis of Moscow Hierarchs" (Oct 5/18 — Peter, Alexy, Jonah, Philip, Hermogenes and later additions). The general synaxis of Russian hierarchs as such has no single official commemoration date.
