Righteous Theodora of Corinth

The Holy Martyr Theodora of Corinth suffered for Christ in 258 AD together with the Holy Martyr Leonidas of Corinth and seven other virgin martyrs — Chariessa, Nike, Galina, Kalista, Nunechia, Basilissa, and Irene. Leonidas, a native of the Peloponnese, led a choir of Christian women who kept singing hymns openly during Decius's persecution. Arrested near Troezen in Argolis days before Pascha, they were tried before Venustus, governor of Corinth. After torture, they were cast into the sea bound and weighted with stones; tradition holds they walked on the water singing psalms until their persecutors overtook them by boat and drowned them. Christians recovered and honorably buried their bodies, building a church on the site. The Church commemorates St. Theodora of Corinth with the company of St. Leonidas on April 16/29.
