Righteous Theodosius of the Caucasus

St. Theodosius of the Caucasus (secular name Fyodor Fyodorovich Kashin, 1841–1948) was a hieroschemamonk and spiritual elder active from the late 19th through the mid-20th century. He was tonsured a monk on Mount Athos, at a cell of the Iveron Monastery, receiving the name Theodosius, and later served in Constantinople and Jerusalem, where tradition holds he received the great schema. Around 1912 he returned to Russia and settled in the Kuban region, founding a small hermitage that drew numerous pilgrims and spiritual children. He was reputed to possess gifts of clairvoyance, spiritual discernment, and healing. In 1927 he was arrested on charges of anti-Soviet agitation, sentenced to three years' imprisonment, and exiled to the Karaganda region of Kazakhstan. After his release he settled in Mineralnye Vody, living in seclusion, practicing holy foolishness, and secretly receiving spiritual children in a home chapel until his death in 1948. He was locally glorified in 1995 by Metropolitan Gedeon (Dokukin) of the Stavropol-Vladikavkaz (now Pyatigorsk) diocese; his relics rest in the Church of the Intercession in Mineralnye Vody.
