Patriarch of Alexandria, who headed the Egyptian Church from 282 to 300, predecessor of Hieromartyr Peter I.
Hierarch Theonas headed the Church of Alexandria from 282 until his death on 23 August 300. His tenure fell during a period of relative calm between waves of persecution against Christians, which allowed him to focus on organizing church life and instructing his flock. He was succeeded on the See of Alexandria by Hieromartyr Peter I of Alexandria, who later suffered martyrdom under Emperor Maximinus Daza.
