Righteous Venerable Titus, Presbyter of the Kiev Caves

Venerable Titus, presbyter of the Kiev Caves, labored in the Kiev Caves Monastery in the second half of the 12th century and reposed not before 1190. His relics rest in the Near Caves of the Kiev Caves Lavra. His life is preserved in the Kiev Caves Patericon in "The Tale of Two Brothers, Presbyter Titus and Deacon Evagrius, Who Held Enmity Between Themselves." Titus and Deacon Evagrius had once shared deep, sincere friendship, but through demonic influence it turned into such bitter hatred that neither could bear the sight of the other, even during the censing of the church. When Titus fell gravely ill and, preparing for death, sent to ask Evagrius's forgiveness, Evagrius refused reconciliation with harsh words. The brotherhood forcibly brought Evagrius to the dying man's bedside, but as he tore free from their hands he suddenly fell dead, while Titus, having received forgiveness, was miraculously healed. This event became a solemn lesson to the monastery on the destructiveness of unforgiven enmity and the power of repentance and love of neighbor.
