Holy Hierarch Titus (Trit) of Byzantium — a legendary 3rd-century bishop of ancient Byzantium in the apostolic succession from St. Andrew the First-Called; not included in the modern ROC calendar.
Holy Hierarch Titus (in some sources, Trit) of Byzantium was bishop of the city of Byzantium (the future Constantinople) and held the episcopal throne from approximately 242 to 272, one of the successors of the Apostle Andrew in the legendary line of early bishops of the ancient see of Byzantium. He led a holy, God-pleasing life and instructed Dometius and his sons Probus and Metrophanes in piety. Seeing Dometius's zeal to serve the Lord, Bishop Titus ordained him a presbyter. After Titus's death, the episcopal throne of Byzantium passed first to Dometius, then to his devout sons Probus and Metrophanes. Titus's life is recorded in the Great Menaion of Reading (Chetьi-Minei) of St. Dimitry of Rostov, but he is not included in the modern liturgical calendar of the Russian Orthodox Church.
