Righteous Trophimus (with Sabbatius and Dorymedon)

When the bare name "Trophimus" appears without further qualification, it most commonly refers to the martyr who suffered together with Sabbatius and Dorymedon under Emperor Probus (276–282). Arriving in Antioch, Trophimus and Sabbatius watched with sorrow as a raucous pagan festival unfolded, and prayed that God would turn the lost to salvation. For this they were seized and tried, firmly confessing Christ and refusing to sacrifice to idols. After torture, Trophimus was sent to Synnada in Phrygia, where the governor Dionysius subjected him to further torment, including days of forced marching in red-hot spiked iron boots; the saint endured it in prayer. In prison, the wounded Trophimus was secretly tended by the senator Dorymedon, himself a hidden Christian. When discovered, all three were thrown to wild beasts, which left them unharmed, and the martyrs were beheaded.
