Righteous Tryphaena of Cyzicus

Saint Tryphaena the Martyr came from Cyzicus in Asia Minor, daughter of pious Christians — a senator named Anastasius and a mother named Socratia. Raised in the faith from childhood, she openly denounced the pagan error of her fellow citizens who worshiped idols, urging them toward the true God. For this the governor Caesarius subjected her to cruel torture: thrown into a blazing furnace, she emerged unharmed; hung from a tall tree and cast onto sharp stakes; given to wild beasts, which did her no harm. Finally she was gored to death by a maddened bull. Tradition holds that a healing spring appeared where her blood was shed. Her life is preserved in the Lives of the Saints by St. Demetrius of Rostov.
