Righteous Vasily Ivanovich Infantiev

Hieromartyr Vasily Ivanovich Infantiev was born in 1854 and served as priest of the Church of St. Demetrius of Thessaloniki in the village of Taushkanskoye in the Ekaterinburg diocese. During the Russian Civil War, amid the Red Terror against the clergy, Father Vasily was seized by Red Army soldiers on a false accusation and subjected to brutal torture. He suffered a martyr's death on August 12/25, 1918. He was glorified among the New Martyrs and Confessors of the Russian Church at the Jubilee Bishops' Council of 2000 and is venerated within the Synaxis of Ekaterinburg Saints. His martyrdom, along with that of other clergy of the Ekaterinburg land who perished in the summer of 1918, forms part of the broader wave of persecution against the Church in the Urals region in the early months of Soviet rule.
