Right-believing Princess Anna of Kashin, Tver

Right-believing Princess Anna of Kashin was born around 1280, daughter of Prince Demetrius Borisovich of Rostov. She became the wife of holy right-believing Prince Michael Yaroslavich of Tver. She survived her husband's martyric death in the Horde in 1318, and later the deaths of several sons. After these trials she took monastic vows, and later the great schema, settling in Kashin. She became renowned as an example of patience, humility, and deep faith amid the most grievous personal losses. Her relics, glorified by miracles, were uncovered in the 17th century; veneration was suspended due to the Old Believer schism (her relics were used as an argument by Old Believers), but restored in 1909 by decree of Emperor Nicholas II.
