Venerable Jeremiah the Clairvoyant of the Kiev Caves

Venerable Jeremiah the Clairvoyant of the Kiev Caves was a contemporary of the Baptism of Rus' and was himself baptized at that time. He later came to the Kiev Caves Monastery to Sts. Anthony and Theodosius and received monastic tonsure from them, laboring in the Near Caves. The Lord granted him the rare spiritual gift of clairvoyance: he foresaw people's futures and perceived the moral state of their souls, for which his contemporaries called him "the Clairvoyant." He foretold many events, good and evil, and his predictions invariably came to pass. He is especially remembered for dissuading wavering monks from abandoning the monastic life by exposing their hidden thoughts to them. He reposed in deep old age around 1070. His relics rest in the Near (Anthony's) Caves of the Kiev Caves Lavra. He was locally glorified in 1643, with universal veneration confirmed by Synodal decrees of 1762, 1775, and 1784.
