Venerable Paisius of Galich

Venerable Paisius of Galich labored in the first half of the 15th century at the Dormition Monastery on the shore of Lake Galich, where he came as a young monk around 1385. Leading the monastery as abbot and later archimandrite, he became renowned for strict asceticism and care for the brethren. The monastery was known for the miracle-working Galich-Chukhloma icon of the Mother of God, traditionally found by St. Abraham of Galich. Venerable Paisius deliberately avoided involvement in the princely feuds of his time, devoting himself wholly to spiritual labor. He reposed in old age on May 23, 1460; his relics rest beneath the floor of the monastery he led. He is venerated in the Synaxis of Kostroma Saints.
