Venerable Theodosius of Manyava

St. Theodosius of Manyava was a 17th-century Ukrainian ascetic, the closest disciple and successor of St. Job (Kniahynytsky), founder of the Manyava Hermitage in the Carpathians, known as the "Ukrainian Athos." After St. Job's repose in 1621, Theodosius became the second abbot, continuing to govern according to the strict Athonite cenobitic rule established by his teacher. Under him the hermitage became a major spiritual and educational center of Galicia and a stronghold of Orthodoxy amid pressure from the Uniate movement under Catholic Poland. He was known for strict asceticism, non-acquisitiveness, and care for the brotherhood. He reposed on September 24, 1629, and was buried next to St. Job in the monastery he helped build. By decision of the Holy Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church on March 8, 1994, he was glorified as a locally venerated saint.
