Martyr Tryphon of Apamea (d. c. 250) — healer and wonderworker beheaded in Nicaea under Emperor Decius, patron of farmers and vintners.
Martyr Tryphon was born in the village of Campsada near the city of Apamea in Phrygia. From youth he possessed the gift of healing and exorcism; as a teenager, tradition holds, he healed the daughter of Emperor Gordian III in Rome. During the persecution of Decius (249–251) he was seized by the eparch Aquilinus, tortured with iron hooks and fire, and beheaded in Nicaea around 250. In folk tradition he is venerated as patron of farmers and vintners, protector of crops from pests.
