Venerable Stefan Urošić Nemanjić

Venerable Stefan Urošić Nemanjić (c. 1285 – before 1316) — Serbian prince, son of Stefan Dragutin, who died a young monk whose relics streamed myrrh.
Venerable Stefan Urošić Nemanjić was a Serbian prince, son of King Stefan Dragutin (in monasticism Theoctist, separately researched in this database) and the Hungarian princess Catherine, grandson of King Stefan Uroš I. He was born around 1285. He died young, having received monastic tonsure with the name Stefan before his death. He was buried in the Church of St. Achilleus in Arilje, a monastery founded by his father. Fragrant myrrh soon began to stream from his grave, drawing veneration and giving rise to local glorification. He should not be confused with the much better-known Serbian Tsar Stefan Uroš V of the same name (14th c.) — two distinct figures of different eras. His relics still rest in the Arilje church. His feast is kept November 11/24.
