Hierarch Victor of Capua

St. Victor of Capua held the episcopal see of Capua from February 541 to April 554 — thirteen years and thirty-eight days, according to the inscription on his tombstone. The Venerable Bede called him "a most learned man." His life's chief work was compiling, between 541 and 546, a Gospel harmony known as the Codex Fuldensis — one of the oldest surviving manuscripts of the Latin Vulgate, harmonizing the four Gospels after the model of Tatian's Diatessaron. He died on April 2, 554. His relics rested at the Abbey of Monte Cassino; part were translated to Capua Cathedral in 1967.
