Synaxis Synaxis of the Saints of Volhynia

The Synaxis of the Saints of Volhynia was restored by decision of the church hierarchy in 1982 in honor of the many ascetics of piety connected with the ancient land of Volhynia — one of the cradles of Christianity in Rus, where the preaching of the Gospel took root already in the pre-Mongol period. The Synaxis glorifies Volhynian princes, hierarchs of local sees, venerable founders of Pochaev and other monasteries of the region, and the 20th-century new martyrs and confessors of Volhynia. The feast is intended to demonstrate the unbroken continuity of the region's spiritual tradition through centuries of trials on the border between the Orthodox and Catholic worlds.
