Synaxis Holy Physicians and Unmercenary Healers

"Holy Physicians and Unmercenary Healers" is not a single church Synaxis with a shared feast date, but a thematic collection of healer-saints grouped by the nature of their podvig: healing bodily and spiritual afflictions without charge ("unmercenary" service). Among them are the holy unmercenaries Cosmas and Damian (of Asia, of Rome, of Arabia — several distinct namesake pairs), the Great Martyr and Healer Panteleimon of Nicomedia, the martyrs Cyrus and John, and St. Luke (Voino-Yasenetsky), Archbishop of Simferopol, an outstanding 20th-century surgeon, among others. Each has his or her own separately established feast day; this entry groups them only thematically, as a body of saints whose life's labor was tied to medical service, and does not replace the individual entries for specific healer-saints in the database.
