Martyr Agapius of Rome

Martyr Agapius was the son of the Great Martyr Eustathius Placidas, a renowned Roman military commander who served under Emperors Titus and Trajan. At baptism Placidas took the name Eustathius, his wife became Theopistia, and their sons became Agapius and Theopistus. After a miraculous separation and later miraculous reunion of the family, having endured many trials, all four were seized as Christians. The cruel emperor (according to tradition, Hadrian) ordered the holy family thrown alive into a red-hot bronze ox, in which they met their martyric end. When the fiery "tomb" was opened three days later, the martyrs' bodies were found unharmed — not a single hair on their heads had been touched.
