Martyr Anna Zertsalova
1875–1937
A Moscow laywoman, venerator and spiritual daughter of Archpriest Valentin Amfiteatrov, shot at the Butovo firing range in 1937; glorified in 2000.
Martyr Anna Zertsalova was born on 31 January 1875 in Moscow into the family of a provincial government secretary. She was a spiritual daughter and venerator of Moscow Archpriest Valentin Amfiteatrov and of Blessed Matrona Konyukhova, and organized pilgrimages to their graves. On 27 October 1937 she was arrested on charges of participating in a counter-revolutionary church-monarchist group. She was shot on 27 November 1937 at the Butovo firing range near Moscow and buried in an unmarked mass grave. She was glorified among the holy New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia by the Jubilee Bishops' Council of the Russian Orthodox Church in August 2000.
