Venerable Anthony Of Dymsk

Venerable Anthony of Dymsk was born in Novgorod, took monastic vows under Venerable Varlaam of Khutyn, and became hegumen of the Khutyn monastery after his repose; seeking solitude, he founded Dymsky Monastery near Tikhvin, where he practiced strict asceticism (wearing an iron cap).
Venerable Anthony of Dymsk lived around 1157–1224 and was born in Novgorod. He took monastic vows at the Khutyn Monastery under Venerable Varlaam of Khutyn and became hegumen of the monastery after his death. Seeking solitude, he founded Dymsky Monastery near Tikhvin, where he practiced strict asceticism, wearing an iron cap with nails. The saint's relics, uncovered in 1330, became renowned for miracles. His memory is kept on January 17/30, the day he shares a name-day with Venerable Anthony the Great, and on June 24/July 7, the day of his repose; he is also commemorated in the Synaxis of the Saints of Novgorod and the Synaxis of the Saints of St. Petersburg.
